my pregnancy: week 26

The close of my second trimester is nearing an end. And at a rapid pace! I just can’t believe we have 3 more months to go until Hunter’s here.

Really.

Mind blowing.

How’s Hunter growing?

The network of nerves in your baby’s ears is better developed and more sensitive than before. He may now be able to hear both your voice and your partner’s as you chat with each other. He’s inhaling and exhaling small amounts of amniotic fluid, which is essential for the development of his lungs. These so-called breathing movements are also good practice for when he’s born and takes that first gulp of air. And he’s continuing to put on baby fat. He now weighs about a pound and two-thirds and measures 14 inches (an English hothouse cucumber) from head to heel. If you’re having a boy, his testicles are beginning to descend into his scrotum — a trip that will take about two to three days. — from babycenter

Jacob and I were both mesmerized by how long he’s getting! The cucumber couldn’t even fit in the photo. What will we be at next week??? Wait and see.

Sleep please

This week I (okay Jacob too) realized something crucial. I need my sleep, and I better get enough of it. Last week I share about my horrible night’s sleep. While that didn’t happen again both Friday and Saturday night I did not sleep enough – just around 6 hours. Both nights we were up late, but then Saturday morning I just couldn’t stay asleep once 5am rolled around. I tried and tried, but finally decided to get up of bed. The next day I had to get up and get stuff done before heading to church + errands.

By Sunday afternoon I was feeling beat, emotional and very grouchy. I burst into tears that night for who knows why. My emotions were just all over the place. I was supposed up pick my parents up at the airport at 8:30pm, but Jacob forced me to just go to bed and he picked them up.

Boy did I sleep good. It’s amazing what a solid 8-9 hours of sleep will do. My major grouchiness and tears have been gone since then.

Now I have a strict ‘get in bed by 8:30pm’ being enforced by Jacob. It’s actually really nice. :)

Move it

Onto the weekly workout round up. Here’s how it went:

Saturday: 25 minute walk with Jacob + Joe
Sunday: rest
Monday: 1 mile run + .25 mile walk on treadmill
Tuesday: rest
Wednesday: taught 60 minute bodypump
Thursday: taught 60 minute cycle in the AM, then again in the evening
Friday: headed to 60 minute strength training class + teaching 45 minute cycle later

It’s funny how my weeks flip flop. Last week I had a lot more strength, this week more cardio! Subbing extra cycle classes is always fun.

What wasn’t too fun was my run on Monday. I’ve decided if I want to still continue enjoying running throughout my pregnancy it’s got to be outside. I felt heavy and slow on the treadmill which is why I only lasted 1 mile. When I run outside I just run at whatever pace my body feels like – slower in the beginning then faster as I warm up. Plus it’s actually fun and makes me happy unlike that treadmill run.

Please start cooperating, will you weather?

Maternity clothes

I wear maternity clothes every day. Sometimes all my clothes, and if not all at least 1 piece.

Maternity pants – always
Tops – about half the time but any regular tops get pretty short so I have to wear a long tank underneath
Workout clothes – tops are getting scarce. I’m down to a handful of rotating tops that will actually cover my belly. Must find more ASAP.

The one that I’ve got in the photos looks like it will last me a while since it’s pretty loose fitting.  We shall see though!

Foods for the week

I have been eating A LOT more produce and loving it. This is all due to the fact that I went to Costco on Sunday, my bad day. I threw my budget out the window and spent about twice as much between two stores than I should have.

Note to self: don’t shop when you’re hungry OR crazy emotional.

But since I did shop a lot, our fridge and counter has been stocked with fresh strawberries, plums, cuties, apples, sugar snap peas, cucumbers and red bell peppers. Plus lots of hummus (sambra tuscan garden ~ so good) for veggie dipping. Even Jacob’s been loving the hummus which makes me happy.

Again, I’m loving the yogurt and my after lunch chocolate dessert.

It even gets its own little container. Cute huh?

Coming up

We’ve got a lot of exciting stuff coming up this week. The nursery’s hole in the wall is getting fixed (!!!), which means my mom can then come over and paint the wall when she has time.

Jacob’s been making progress on the mural.  I hope to begin working on some of my nursery project this weekend too. Heather’s getting crafty!

We’re going to a breastfeeding class on Tuesday so that should be fun and educational, I hope.

Oh and not happening this week, but last Sunday we pre-registered at the hospital + got a tour of the family birth center. We had already seen a lot if it since my friend had twins there last year, but it was nice to see that they had a built in water birth tub, in addition to the inflatable birth tubs.

Fun times ahead!
